This position is responsible for contributing to operational and development efforts in support of the scientific mission for Molecular Science Computing Facility within the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory. The MSCF consists of a High Performance Computing Center and a Graphics and Visualization Laboratory.  MSCF hosts one of the world?s largest Linux-based HP parallel cluster supercomputers and large-scale storage solutions.  MSCF scientists are pioneering new ground in the area of very large scale storage and data management solutions.  To learn more, visit: http://www.emsl.pnl.gov/capabs/mscf.shtml 

 

Minimum Requirements 

Level II: BS + 2 years experience, or MS/PhD degree

Level III: BS + 5 years experience, or MS + 3 years, or PhD + 1 year.

 

The successful candidate is expected to have a track record of developing and maintaining code at the Linux kernel level.  HPC experience is desired.  The position requires a Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in computer science, or other area related to the technical work performed in the MSCF.  Candidates must be U.S. Citizens.

 

Level placement will be determined based on the management's assessment of the candidate's skills, knowledge, and ability to contribute. 

 

Qualifications 

This position requires an experienced developer with Linux kernel and driver level experience (at least 5 years of professional experience is strongly preferred).  Must have experience in large-scale UNIX/Linux environments; a strong networking background will be helpful.  Experience with many or all of the following: file systems such as ext2/3, XFS, Lustre, or  PVFS(2), Programming languages such as: C, C++, PERL, Python, PHP, assembly.  Experience with compilers, application and kernel-level debuggers and profiling tools are essential.  Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams, and a strong orientation toward advancing Linux and storage technologies.
