MOS-B, Business Manager

SUMMARY:

As a senior member of the SEI Program Integration Directorate (PID),
this person is responsible for identifying and establishing
collaborative research projects with key commercial industry entities.
The successful candidate will influence industry executives to align
their software and systems technical strategies with the SEI?s technical
directions and bring technical issues back to the SEI programs to
consider for future research.

This position will be based in the SEI Pittsburgh, Pa., or Washington D.
C. Office.


Education/Training: Master of Business Administration from an accredited
university; bachelor of science in engineering or a scientific field, or
comparable business background.

Experience: Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible
experience in business development and project management activities
relating to technical products and services of large industrial
organizations. This person must have a proven and successful track
record of creating and building business in a high-technology area,
working with established business processes. The candidate must also
understand the customer-related issues and know how to handle the
typical problems of industrial groups.

Skills/Abilities:
Must have the personal presence and self-assurance to be viewed as an
executive who clearly belongs in the community of industrial peers. Must
have the business acumen to convince skeptical executives to change
priorities and plans. Must quickly identify core issues and reach
conclusions that are supported by pertinent facts.

Must be comfortable with understanding technical products and services
and be able to interact effectively with technical staff at the SEI and
in customer organizations.

Must be an effective communicator and be able to persuade SEI technical
staff and management to accept decisions that may run counter to the
current interests of some members.

Must be able to manage and help improve the capabilities of the industry
business development staff. Must know how to manage plans and
consistently meet commitments.

Must respond quickly and effectively to changing priorities; must
possess excellent analytical, organizational, supervisory, reasoning,
and problem solving skills. Must have excellent verbal and written
communication skills.

Above all, this individual must be an outstanding relationship builder,
capable of building positive working relationships with industry leaders
and internal SEI technical and management personnel.


Mobility: Normally sedentary with some mobility; i.e., ability to
travel to other locations on and off campus. May require some bending,
stretching, pushing, as well as lifting up to several reams of paper,
etc. Frequent travel is required. Also must adjust to a work schedule
that requires weekend and evening hours.

Environmental Conditions: Position to be located in either Pittsburgh
or Washington, DC SEI offices. Normal office setting.

Mental: Must thrive under pressure to meet personal sales quotas and
manage other salespeople to meet their sales quotas. Must perform as a
lead salesperson and sales manager.

Other: Successful candidate must be able to pass a background
investigation.
