Position Information: Northwest Airlines is seeking a qualified candidate for a Manager, IS in the Tech Services division of our Information Services department. This is a full time position located in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.
Responsibilities: Plays key role in Information Services to deliver corporate objectives and meet Information Services goals. Builds and maintains a world class group of technical professionals to fulfill systems engineering needs. Provides tactical and strategic management. Manage a staff of specialists responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance of mainframe, midrange, and microserver databases. Responsibilities include management of physical database design and implementation, proactive database performance management, backup and recovery processes, and ongoing support of databases. Publish standards, procedures, and guidelines to the Information Services organization for proper usage of these technologies. Work closely with Data Architecture to provide planning, direction, guidance, and mentoring and development resources to support the implementation of Northwests information architecture. Establish effective relationships with internal customers and software vendors. Manage department budget to meet business objectives.


Qualifications: Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience in related field required. Advanced degree preferred. Minimum 7 years information technology experience required. Experience required in complex technical environments and support of mission critical systems. Experience with data management, database design nad implementation, and relational database platforms (UDB/DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase) preferred. Strong customer service skills, leadership skills required. Demonstrated success in process improvement, team building, and customer satisfaction required.
