Performance Engineer - Java - Linux

Job Summary:

We're looking for an experienced Performance Engineer to join a small, high-powered team tasked with building a ground-breaking foundation for multiple critical products here at Iron Mountain.  This position will require expertise in evaluating a high-performance, scalable client-server system on the Debian Linux platform.  This is one of those very rare opportunities... a major greenfield application in a start-up like environment with the backing of a large, successful company and using leading edge technology to solve some really tough problems.

 

The technical challenges this team faces are significant and therefore qualified applicants will have at least 10 years of referenceable experience in performance testing successful top-quality software.  Additionally they will be those rare individuals who can grasp even the toughest issues quickly and come up with solid, quality solutions at a remarkable pace.  Just as important as technical abilities are your skills at working with a team. Key responsibilities include system performance analysis of our product, predictive modeling for proposed new designs and work with other engineers to propose and/or evaluate enhancements.  The successful candidate will have knowledge of highly available, distributed systems; understand the production operating environment and the ability to understand how these factors contribute to the product quality and performance.  The candidate must be able to use this knowledge to construct highly concentrated scenarios and be able to target certain application areas for more intensive testing. 

 

Job Responsibilities:Recommend and implement algorithmic and implementation tuning strategiesPredictive modeling for proposed new designsDevelop tools that can measure, analyze and characterize performance, robustness, reliability and scalability of a large distributed systemDesign and precisely control a performance test environmentDevelop grid integration setup scripts, data transfer measurement suites, suites to measure the handling of grid resource & other failuresWork with other engineers to propose and/or evaluate software fixes and enhancements to assist in managing performance

 

Candidate Qualifications:BS or above in Computer Science or at least 10 years applicable experienceProven experience with programming in Java, Perl and PythonKnowledge of Linux OS internals is a huge plus Understanding of highly available, distributed systemsMeasurement and data analysis (statistical) experiencedDeep understanding of performance analysis methodologies such as time-based profiling, frequency-based profiling, and low level benchmarkingExceptional self-management skillsExceptional oral and written communication skills, outstanding attention to detail
