Performance & Reliability Engineering: Software Dev Engineer

Amazon.com is looking for performance engineers. The Performance and Reliability teams are the eyes and ears of Amazon's massively distributed systems. This group is responsible building tools and frameworks to collect, propagate, apply rules, visualize and automatically respond to Amazon's running health. The job is high profile and high responsibility - Amazon performance engineers are typically at the center of the next generation platforms being built within company walls. Not only will you be working with the best of breed engineering staff at Amazon, you will be consulting on software performance with development groups and ensuring that all systems can meet scaling requirements for our customers and merchants.

Several years experience with OO design techniques in a C/C++ or Java environment are required. Perl/Python or other scripting languages are highly desired. Experience with performance analysis (use of profilers and code instrumentation techniques), system software development (operating systems, device drivers, database servers, etc.), and large scale distributed systems and systems architecture is a definite plus. Also requires excellent communication, prioritization, and analytical skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and a BS or higher degree in computer science or equivalent.
