Software Dev Engineer - Dev Tools


Our Dev Tools Team is looking for an experienced software development engineer willing to think big.


 


Making sense of thousands of software components is difficult.


 


Managing and maintaining the consistency of thousands of software components, with multiple versions, deployed to tens of thousands of hosts, across all stages of the software lifecycle, is Apollo. If you build it, we will come up with the tools to model it, configure it, bundle it, ship it, start/stop it, remove it and roll it back when it doesn't work.


 


The number of moving parts in the Amazon development and production environments requires a fusion of the disciplines of systems management, IT configuration, software engineering, release management, and quality assurance. We own and build every aspect of our product, from the systems/database level up through the services, external APIs, and UI programming. We are solving problems in a space (rapidly-cycling software configuration management) that has very little prior art, at a scale that far exceeds almost any other company on the planet.


 


Duties include design, implementation, documentation, and support of all facets of Apollo and related products. This Software Development Engineer is expected to work well on a team and sponsor new initiatives. Strong verbal and written communication skills and a good customer service orientation are essential.


 


Successful candidates must also be innovative, creative, flexible, self-directed, and able to design and write high-performance, reliable, maintainable code. The ability function at a very high level in a fast paced environment along with a team of very talented engineers is essential.

*Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's degree in Computer Science (or relevant equivalent)


*4+ years of solid industry experience


*Strong OO Design skills required


*Proficiency in C++, Perl and SQL in a Unix environment


*Java experience is a huge plus


*Experience in a highly scalable, distributed environment preferred
