Senior Applications Analyst

Description of project: This contract is for the design, installation, support and maintenance of high performance computing systems used in the research and development of numerical modeling for earth systems.





Description of responsibilities:



Independently responsible for supporting scientific users in the development, porting, profiling, tuning and optimization of scientific numerical modeling applications; providing user training and support of compilers, libraries and utilities required for program development; diagnosing, identifying and resolving user programming problems; designing application development strategies to leverage target HPC architecture features and avoid performance bottlenecks.



Requirements:



-Minimum requirements for this position include 8-12 years professional related experience.

-The Senior Applications Analyst minimum requirement is 8-9 years experience which must include experience in development, porting, tuning and optimization of scientific numerical modeling applications, e.g. earth system models on HPC systems.

-Must have experience in Unix and/or Linux based 32 and 64-bit systems based on distributed memory, shared memory and cluster architectures, preferably IBM Cluster 1600 or IBM SP systems.

-Must be able to work with senior scientists, technical management, systems support engineers, and engineering development teams for programming utilities.


? Must have demonstrated skills in user training and support of compilers, libraries and utilities required for program development, including TotalView.

? Must be familiar with current methods for parallel programming, tools for profiling code, techniques for optimization, and compiler standards for Fortran, C, shell scripting languages and MPI/OpenMP.

? Must be able to diagnose, identify and resolve user programming problems, providing first level support.

? Must understand the features and performance bottlenecks of the target HPC architecture.

? BS/BA. Engineering/Science/Mathematics is required. M.S. Computer Science (or equivalent experience) is desired


Desired Skills:




? Experience with the integration and acceptance testing of HPC systems including benchmarking, transition to new users and utilization expansion.

? Familiarity with other HPC-class systems from SGI, Sun, Cray and HP.



? IBM Certified Programming on an IBM SP or Cluster 1600

? IBM Certified Systems Administration (p-series or power5 with AIX)
