Senior/Lead JAVA Engineer - Online Video Game Video

Perpetual Entertainment is a San Francisco based developer, publisher, and operator of networked multiplayer and massively multiplayer games for the PC and next-generation videogame consoles. Perpetual Entertainment was founded and is staffed by industry veterans dedicated to the vision that playing games together is simply more fun, more challenging, and more rewarding than playing alone.

 

Perpetual Entertainment is furthering this vision through their two AAA titles, Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising and Star Trek Online - both utilizing the Perpetual Entertainment Platform. PEP is Perpetual's answer to the traditional struggles of developing an MMO. With PEP, developing a massively multiplayer game becomes more of a focus on the game and its potential rather than its technology. PEP is the complete solution for the development, hosting, monitoring, and operation of any networked online game on any platform: PCs, consoles, cell phones, and handheld devices. In combination with PEP, Perpetual is also developing the Perpetual Game Engine (PGE) ? a suite of reusable game tools and libraries that enable rapid AAA-quality development of MMOs and other networked games.

 

Currently Hiring: SENIOR/LEAD JAVA ENGINEER

 

Will be working with a team developing JAVA server software for the Linux platform.  Our group is building a complex mission-critical distributed enterprise solution that supports high transaction volumes and maintain high availability.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Responsible for the full life-cycle of projects, including requirements design, technical design, task estimation, implementation, automated testing, debugging, and deployment.Take ownership of major features and components of our online gaming platform.Work closely with game designers, game programmers and QA to deliver industry-leading game platform solutions.Architect, design and implement major features and components from requirements, write functional and technical specifications.Drive major design decision of software architecture and functionality.Help drive effective processes and design and coding standards for software development.Perform code and design reviews.Works closely with SQA and other organizations in the company to educate staff and evaluate feature requirements and functionality.Mentor junior developers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.  Masters Degree a plus8-10 years experience developing software in a structured setting.Excellent written and verbal communications skills.Expert level knowledge of JAVA and experience working in multi-threaded JAVA server environments.Expert in JMS, ESB Concepts and implementation, J2EE and web services.Good working knowledge of web based GUI, SQL and DB design.Comfortable with Linux development environment.Good experience with object-oriented design and implementation.Experience with XML and SOAP preferred.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Familiarity with modern agile development methodologies and practices.Team leadership/management skills a plus.
