NASA Planet Finder Needs Java Software Engineer

The Science Operations Center is responsible for developing the transit photometry software to process CCD image data from the telescope to look for Earth-size planets in other star systems.

We are looking for a software engineer with Java experience. Specific responsibilities will include:
* Implementation and design of Java and C++ software on Linux
* Developing formal functional and detailed design specifications
* Java Programming
* Database administration
* System administration
* Security engineering
* Schedule development
* Tool development


We seek a candidate with the following qualifications:
* B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar engineering discipline
* U.S. Citizenship required
* 2-plus years experience developing software for UNIX or Linux in Java
* Knowledge of object-oriented design methodologies
* Experience with UML desirable
* Participated in at least one project from specification through release
* Experience developing distributed applications using JMS is desirable
* Experience in numerical processing, algorithm development, or signal processing is a plus
* Very good verbal and written communication skills
* A background or interest in Physics or Astronomy is helpful but not required
