Chief Engineer and Team have exceptionally strong personal commitment to embedded QA: from concept through post production support.  Your advice will be sought at each phase of the SDLC.  Be a key member of the design/build team. As a Software/QA Test Lead you will be responsible for all test/release phases for new and existing products, encompassing both short and long term projects.  We need your help in architecting and leading the development of automation programs and scripts for .NET based application layer projects ? a huge plus would be familiarity in work reaching to the firmware.  You should want to and enjoy working up and down the stack, ensuring the integrity of the product?s overall design as well as the components. You should be experienced with Build management tools. 

 

You will:

 

? Prepare automated white and black box test plans and schedules for all testing activities, including functionality tests, regression testing, platform tests, etc.

? Maintain bug and work item tracking systems.

? Prepare status and release reports.

? Lead the development team in building and deploying automated tests.

? Technically mentor and provide technical supervision of QA team members

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Strong technical background plus an affinity/passion for identifying faults?.

 

In addition you have:

? Bachelor degree, or higher, in Computer Science or related discipline

? Strong verbal and written communications skills ? and patience to go with them

? Must have led at least 4-5 testing projects out of which at least 3 projects in automation/performance testing.

? 4 years experience in testing client/server software in Windows and Linux operating systems

? 2 years experience as Software Test Lead

? at least 1 year of automated test architecture

? Strong analytical, problem-diagnosis, problem-reproduction, and problem-solving abilities

? Strong Experience with technologies such as C/C++, C#, Java, .Net platform, XML

? Has worked with build and code management tools ? know the various products, their strengths and weaknesses, etc.

 

Additional ?nice to have: skills:

 

? Bluetooth/WiFi experience a plus

? Should have been responsible for design, development of automation strategies and/or successful development/implementation effort.

 

 

PRODUCT  DESCRIPTION

 

We invite you to consider the opportunity to be considered for Senior QA and the Senior QA Lead roles for a whole new equipment line based on the portable embedded computing space. Take the lead in guiding the specing, designing, and rolling out our applications based on cutting edge embedded Firmware architecture and implementation strategies.

 

Our products live on two levels:  the hardware and the software.  Of the two, we are looking primarily for a QA Professional with extensive software design, build, and deployment experience.  We?re developing C# based products under .NET. Though we will be interfacing with 3rd party providers using C++/JAVA.  You will be given the right to lead/author automated white and black box testing scripts in support of our hosted PDA programs utilizing proven/advanced hardware.  You?ll be using Visual Studio Team edition.  Previous lead is strongly favored, but isn?t mandatory for the right candidate.

Our processor family of choice:  ARM 7/9/11 ? chosen specifically to give us the widest range of ports and pre-existing device drivers.  But we?re watching the next generation ? come work for us and we?ll help drive the prime vendors design specs for the next generation of tools.  Our firmware folks have 5+ years on these systems on these chip designs.

What about you???? Well then, we?re glad you asked?.

 

You should have considerable commercial experience in embedded Linux, standard Linux, and/or Tiny Linux Operating Systems.  As a firmware developer, you will have earned your stripes from hardware bread-boarding through software development on a wide set of dev tools and editors?  Be able to show us a portfolio of at least one Linux platform design based on your major firmware and architecture responsibility as the lead design engineer.  The more the better.

 

Which means?.

 

You will have brought up platform software and firmware from concept to operations, including OS, networking and peripherals on new hardware platforms using system-on-chip design strategies.

 

And you will have commercially developed multiple complex device drivers on embedded platforms giving you a good understanding of the perils and joys of writing low level software to directly control hardware.

 

We would speculate you:

 

? Have developed Linux File Systems on embedded platforms with various Flash memory types

 

? Practice disciplined software design methodology based on embedded QA principles driving the SDLC.  Our QA begins at concept ? and it never ends.  And it?s QA, not QC.  We know and practice the difference!

 

? Are an exceptional C coder; you are thoroughly familiar with coding for the ARM family, as mentioned. C#/.net is extremely helpful; as mentioned, our application layer is mostly built in C#/.net though some of our 3rd party interfaces require C++ and Java.

 

? Have a solid understanding of processor architectures, RISC sets, memory management, etc.  We want you to have seen it done WRONG as well as right (we hope you?ve been on at least one failed team/effort).  We want you to have earned your scar tissue on someone else?s nickel so that YOUR budget here will make you look like the hero and polished designer/builder you are.  Hey, we?re creative people ? no failure along the way means no risks taken?. and we all know what that means:  NO INNOVATION!!!  Ugh? Hey, we get it.  We?re engineers, designers, and builders first and always.  We?ve been there.  We still live here?. we do by choice!!!  We wouldn?t have it any other way.

 

But then, back to the job?.

 

? You will need to have a proven track record in managing critical low power design functions in support of battery-operated systems.  Some of our machines work in hostile environments as well as more pleasant conditions.  Some of our applications are in places where it?s just plain hard or highly impractical to swap out batteries every few hours. So our managed power targets are challenging?. because they need to be.  And then there is that whole question of heat density/dissipation.

 

? Should have developed Linux File Systems on embedded platforms with various memory Flash types.

 

? And lastly, you have exposure in the development of protocols for (Wlans, GPS, TCP/IP, VoIP) on embedded platforms is a plus, as is exposure to UWB and Bluetooth.  Many of our machines are driven by external central databases, streaming big data to the displays for interaction/decision support.

BACKGROUND

 

As we said, this position is open due to growth.  We?re seeking an industry heavy like you.  We have multiple large projects ? and we have the ability to partner with proven vendors much like ourselves to handle surge work.  You will be the adult supervision? they?ll work for you.  And you?ll work for our Chief Engineer. 

 

You?ll need a BSEE or MSEE in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with at least 10 years of industry experience; 5+ years doing successful/ noteworthy Firmware design/build.  However, as proof of being open minded ourselves, we will listen to your ?equivalent? story, if it true and accurate, but be prepared to present papers, patents, and positive proof?. we?ll want to see them.

 

Any multi modal experience such as speaking, sketching, handwriting, and gesturing recognition is also a strong bonus ? after all, we are redefining how we interact with computers...  some of our best designers have some truly diverse exposures to advanced digital music, DSP, and avant-garde technologies defining the machine vision world.
