Senior Writer/Editor

SUMMARY:
This position will provide a variety of technical and marketing communication support for the SEI?s technical program. Responsibilities include communication planning, writing, editing, and associated activities involved in the development of technical articles, reports, handbooks, Web pages, and educational materials. Candidates must be able to write clear prose on technical subjects, gather requirements for communication products, and conduct audience analyses; they must have outstanding editing skills and be skilled in both electronic and hard-copy document production technologies; and they must be able to manage multiple projects concurrently.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training/Experience: Bachelors degree in technical communication, English, or equivalent and eight (8) years experience or Masters degree in technical communication or equivalent and five (5) years experience. Broad experience writing and editing technically oriented documents. Demonstrated experience with the management of documentation projects. Experience with developing Web pages and managing Web sites.

Ability to understand and write with authority about topics related to software engineering. Proven ability to be a productive participant on a development team for communication products. Excellent work ethic and ability to perform data gathering, writing, and editing tasks with minimal supervision. Excellent communication, interviewing, consensus building, and negotiation skills. Commitment to usability and clarity, and the willingness to act as a strong advocate for the users of software products and documents. Ability to use Microsoft Word at an expert level. Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to adapt quickly to new computing environments warranted by Technical Communication or technical projects.

Other: May require occasional travel. Successful candidate must pass a background investigation.
