Overview:

 

Axcelis Technologies develops innovative capitol equipment for the semiconductor industry, and in particular, for the Ion Implantation step in the fabrication of semiconductor devices. Our Ion Implanter software ranges from low level device control of robotics and other physical components through generic framework middleware, infrastructure and data management to either an end user GUI or the integration of the equipment into the customers host systems via the SEMI standards. This complex, distributed software is written in C/C++/Java/HTML, and uses windows and VxWorks with CORBA for cross platform communications.

 

This role is to build, lead and motivate our Common Components team - the vision, the architecture, the people and the schedule. The Common Components team includes, for example, the GUI, database, factory automation and infrastructure service components that are reused on multiple products.

 

The position is accountable for maximizing reuse and commonality across our product set and requires constant interfacing with the product development teams. The role is targeted at someone with a mix of architecture and project management skills and a passion for defining and implementing the next generation of innovative and competitive features in record time.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

?  The definition of the architecture to be used for our forward looking Common Components

?  Moving toward a position where the features of our Common Components gain us competitive advantage in the market place for multiple products

?  Collection of requirements from different product teams and customers, prioritization and building of a road map for the common components

?  Ensuring work done inside product teams is consistent and reusable, in particular GUI commonality, reuse and look and feel

?  Bringing a unified, user oriented vision to our products

?  Responsible for "selling" the architecture and the road map to the project teams using the common component software

?  Delivering on the road map - on time and high quality (this includes any aspect of the development lifecycle - requirements, design, code, test, debug, deployment and support)

?  Managing the team to achieve the above

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

The candidate may be required to participate in process improvement initiatives such as our SEPG (Software Engineering Process Group), root cause analysis etc.

Skills/Knowledge/Ability:

 

Must Have:

 

?  Ability to define, document, present and proliferate system architectures for maintainability, modularity, commonality and reuse across multiple products

?  Ability to make architectural recommendations and trade offs around complexity, feature set, time to market, cost

?  Design and storage of data structures and interfacing to such data structures from a GUI, external application or lower layer applications

?  Distributed computing and CORBA or a similar middleware package

?  Relational database usage for performance, extensibility and maintainability

?  Object oriented designs

?  Human factors engineering and GUI design

?  Ability to sell ideas to and gain the confidence of the project teams (internal customers)

?  Successful track record motivating and managing teams and projects to deliver timely quality software for complex equipment through the entire lifecycle of requirements, design, code, unit test, integration test, debug, defect resolution

?  Drive an passion to push our feature set to the next step and ensure a competitive edge

?  Java, C++, HTML, Windows

 

Desirable:

 

?  Understanding of SEMI Standards for 200mm and 300mm automation; Motion control software (MEI eXMP or PMAC controller); Real-time control software algorithms for the automated control of hardware

?  Understanding of real time control software for Semiconductor equipment or other complex industrial machines

?  Java and Jbuilder GUI development tools

?  Visual C++ development environment

?  ORACLE

 

Special Requirements:

 

The candidate should be able to sell ideas to and gain consensus from multiple project groups and manage any conflict resulting from this.

Education/Experience:
