Software Development Engineer - Website Metrics

The Website Metrics team is looking for exceptional software engineers with broad technical abilities and interests. If you have a degree in Computer Science, 3+ years of real-world IT software development experience, we want to talk to you.

Web Metrics is a small, autonomous team that owns instrumentation, collection, and some reporting of customer activity on the Amazon Website. The team builds highly scalable suites of applications, capable of processing huge data volumes. Our current focus is on building meaningful, intuitive, and scalable datasets derived from our core data, to drive high-return business decision making. This will include significant challenges in data storage and access, as well as information presentation.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years experience as a software engineer, excellent real-world problem-solving skills, a good understanding of a of algorithms and data structures, and a strong quantitative mind-set (preferably with some computational complexity and statistical knowledge). The candidate will be highly pragmatic - both a thinker and a do-er; we want to use technology to solve real-world problems expediently. The candidate must be proficient in Java and Perl. A strong UNIX background (preferably Linux) with good understanding of OS fundamentals, database skills and experience with large-scale multi-tiered distributed systems are also highly desired.
