Software Engineer-Reports Development

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Blackboard Product Development team has a proven track record of delivering high quality products to our customer base.  The software engineer develops code based on written functional and technical specifications.  In addition to debugging, software engineers work to continuously refine the code.  There must be an emphasis on quality and performance throughout the development lifecycle. As application code constitutes a company asset, all engineers are responsible for helping maintain the asset?s value. Specifically, s/he will:

 Design, develop and deploy reports using JReportsAssist in database modeling and ETL effortsAssist with application performance and query tuningAddress software defects with timely resolutionWork with other developers to set standards and define best practices for coding and design PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 B.S. in Computer Science or related area of study and be eligible to work in the United States. Master?s degree preferred. 3+ years of in-depth experience in reports design, development, and deployment using industry standard tools on SQL Server and Oracle platformsProficiency in analyzing business needs, translating them into functional requirements, and following up with the actual implementationStrong experience in developing and troubleshooting complex SQL queries, stored procedures and packages Extensive experience in analyzing large data sets (2+ Terra Bytes) and identifying the discrepancies in the dataExcellent communication, presentation, analytical and problem solving skillsWorking knowledge of object oriented methodology and programming experience with JavaProgramming experience in UNIX environment using various scripting language including Korn Shell and C-ShellDemonstrated ability to work with both technical and non-technical individuals, in gathering information and communicating direction. Familiarity with SDLC deliverablesAbility to multi-task, prioritize tasks and quickly adjust in a rapidly changing environment
