Software Engineering Manager - Server

Summary of key responsibilities:

Direct projects to develop specifications, build, test, and implement the software running on the Coinstar server environments.  This position is specifically a server side management role in support of two primary systems.  The first involves managing the develop of connections to 3rd party processors for our real-time transactions such as gift cards and prepaid products.  The second system involves managing the development of tools and systems to support configuration and reporting from the 12,000+ kiosks.

Organize, align, coach, and motivate staff to achieve extraordinary results.  Complete staff's Annual Goal Setting, Training Plans, and  Performance Assessments.  Responsible for hiring and firing of staff as necessary.  Manage 6-10 mid to senior level development staff.

Communicate assignments, priorities, and goals to staff. 

Leading architectural direction of server environment.  Provide technical guidance to staff.

Recognize and clearly communicate goals, obstacles, and most probable solutions, within the team and to members of other departments when appropriate.

Review software specifications (requirements, architecture, functional and design) and actively participate in design meetings.

Apply troubleshooting expertise to track down problems to their most probable cause.

Escalate issues and/or obstacles appropriately.

Preferable Qualifications & Experience:

5+ years software engineering experience covering the whole life-cycle of software development.  This person needs to be strong technically but also a good people manager.  Excellent communication skills are necessary to work directly with team and with other departments to meet customers needs.  Ability to coordinate efforts of team to best meet schedules.

3+ yrs experience leading in an environment of SQL Server, IIS, and C++/C#/.NET.

3+ years providing architectural leadership in a server environment.  Understands and appreciates transaction processing environment that needs to achieve very high uptime. 

3+ years demonstrated experience understanding and developing requirements and specifications and producing high quality documentation for a variety of audiences.

3+ years general/supervisory/management experience.

Thorough understanding of object-oriented development techniques.

Able to work under pressure of deadlines.
