Software Group Manager

Provide leadership to a Software Development Group, including architects, developers, business analysts, and project managers, by devising strategies and tactics to enable effective growth and support of the development teams to meet business needs. Apply industry experience of process and tools to improve Group operations. Coordinate and manage the daily activities of employees in assigned work area. Resolve day to day issues related to team, work-flow and business issues. Respond quickly and effectively to real-time issues. Build and maintain a supportive, cooperative and cohesive work environment. Manage tasks requiring planning, coordination, scheduling, documentation and standards to ensure products and services meet requirements and expectations of the stakeholders. Analyze and report results and risks. Establish and maintain metrics for quality and productivity.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Listed in order of importance with estimated amount of time spent on each task)
1. 15% Provide clear leadership for the assigned Development Group.
2. 15% Work collaboratively with product specialists, program managers, clients, and management to ensure that
functional requirements are thoroughly and accurately defined as required.
3. 10% Facilitate continuous improvement efforts to improve delivery of software products in optimal time.
4. 10% Provide leadership regarding software development tools, techniques, and emerging approaches.
5. 10% Line Manage team of 6 - 18 professionals.
6. 15% Understands resource requirements, and formulates resource strategies to meet stakeholder needs.
7. 5% Work with colleagues in development leadership to optimize effectiveness of the development team and
devise improvement strategies and initiatives.
8. 10% Act as a catalyst for the evolution of our software development life cycle. Facilitate creation and
implementation of new processes, introduce new techniques, bolster our process initiatives
9. 5% Maintain a working knowledge of analysis and programming techniques, including, but not limited to,
architecture, connectivity, programming languages, standards, methods (e.g. CMMI) and tools.
10. 5% Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business or other application field or equivalent experience. Related graduate degree preferred.
* Six years experience in technology - software development, testing, systems, technical support, etc. Two or more years experience in project leadership. Three or more years experience as Team Lead, supervisor or manager in a cross-functional role.
* 2+ yrs exp. in a software development role object-oriented development experience preferred.
* 1+ year Java development experience preferred.
* 1+ yrs exp. in a lead engineering role surrounding a multiple resource project.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
* Must be a self-starter, team-player, and exhibit people management skills & techniques.
* Excellent communication skills able to prepare/deliver technical presentations.
* Knowledge of UML and Use Case Requirements gathering a plus.
* Demonstrated knowledge of technical leadership techniques.
* Demonstrated experience in leadership/teambuilding preferred.
* Demonstrated problem-solving skills & techniques.
* Demonstrated abilities in creating technical documentation.
* Demonstrated skills in software development techniques including development environments, software documentation methods, and development tools CMMI knowledge preferred.
