Speech Solutions Architect

As a Solutions software architect at the Professional Services division of Nuance, you will help lead the overall technical direction and architecture of innovative speech applications for industry-leading companies such as United Airlines, America Online, and Verizon.

Lead the overall system and software architecture of Nuance Solutions applications in a multi-project environment.
Guide, support, and mentor developers implementing the application.
Review all major software deliverables to ensure architectural consistency across projects
Work closely with Product teams to understand technical requirements and limitations of new products and communicate this to the Solutions organization.
Work closely with Partner and end customer technical organizations to understand requirements and limitation of platforms and communicate this to the Solutions organization.
Identify new technologies and tools that will assist developers in implementing solutions
Work closely with Nuance experts in user interface design and speech recognition to ensure application requirements are correctly understood and implemented.
Work closely with Nuance experts in user interface design and speech recognition to optimize application performance.
Provide deep technical assistance as needed to project teams that require it.
Identify key tools and processes that are missing or need improvement to improve the quality and efficiency of the Solutions organization and work with Solutions management to address these needs.
Create and deliver training to both internal and external resources on different tools, technologies, and processes
Provide pre-sales support when and where appropriate regarding feasibility of technical approaches in our sales proposals.
Generally working to establish an excellent working relationship with team members, in particular Project Managers, striving to be overall owner of all technical aspects of a Professional Services engagement.

Required Skills:
6-10 years of software development experience with progressive growth into lead technical architecture roles
Strong Java/C/C++ fundamentals and large project experience with Java/C/C++ development
Strong Web fundamentals and large web application design, development, and deployment experience.
Deep understanding of architectural design patterns and principles
Excellent analysis and diagnostic skills.
Fluency in NT and Unix
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Experience in VXML, computer telephony, specific DBMS or middleware packages, or speech recognition a plus
BSCS or equivalent experience
Be able to work with a minimum amount of direct supervision
Identify functionality versus schedule tradeoffs under pressure
