Sr Diagnostic Engineer CDN

Position Summary:   Design and develop Diagnostic platforms and board level Diagnostic software tests to validate switch hardware and system functions for Engineering and Manufacturing.   Along with HW Designers, perform joint hardware design verification and debug.

The test suite consists of  functional tests, stress tests, and system tests controlled by a diagnostic debug monitor.  The development environment is Clearcase.

 

Primary Job Functions:
Designs and implements diagnostics software for Engineering Design Verification and Test as well as for Manufacturing.
Performs hands-on low-level SW and HW debug.
Interfaces with HW and SW design engineers, as well as with outside vendors.
Reviews architecture, designs, and logic, recommending changes to optimize testability.
Defines requirements and formulates individual and/or team plans and schedules.
Provides technical direction to lower level staff regarding detailed design implementation.

 

Education:
BS/MS in CE preferred. CS with strong HW background, or EE with strong SW background considered. 
5+ years of SW/HW engineering experience including diagnostics for JCI-3

 

Ideal Candidate will have :
Experience in Advanced C programming in a UNIX environment on large scale software products.
Experience with low level device drivers and bus drivers.  Especially desirable:
Devices - flash, PCMCIA, UART, PCI bridges
Buses - I2C, PCI, PCI-E, MDIO, Rapid I/O
Significant experience with Linux application and kernel development. 
Experience in Layer 2 Network programming and familiarity with layer 3 protocols.
Hands on HW and SW Debug.  Experience with JTAG level debuggers such as Windriver ICE and CodeWarrior.  Experience with external traffic generators such as SmartBits or IXIA. Able to read schematics.
Knowledge of Network Architectures and Protocols.
Clearcase experience
Hardware Diagnostic strategies and theories.
Software engineering principles and practices.
Experience integrating proprietary software with vendor supplied large software development kits (i.e. vendor supplied low level drivers).
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast paced schedule driven environment.
