Sr. IT Programmer/Analyst

The company:

 

Insurance Neighborhood is a "start-up" company that sells and services individual health insurance online through a network of local insurance agents.  Successful applicants will need to perform many duties, work in a fast paced environment, and produce solid results within tight timeframes.  The successful applicant for this position will have extensive hands on Java programming experience as well as experience as an analyst in an enterprise environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

- Develops, tests, debugs, maintains, and documents components of information systems applications.

 

- Collaborates with users and IT Business Analysts on the definition of requirements and the design of applications.

 

- Employs programming and design techniques that ensure adherence to software development standards, performance efficiency, reliable and easily maintainable code, and self-documenting programs.

 

- Provides timely and effective response and follow-through in the resolution of production, system availability and response time issues. 

 

- Creates or provides input to the creation of accurate and appropriate project plans.

 

- Reports status against plans in a timely and accurate manner.

 

- Creates appropriate test plans for unit testing and supports system and user acceptance testing.

 

- Completes work assignments by the deadlines established and agreed upon by the incumbent, project group, and management. 

 

- Understands and actively uses the approved system development methodology.

 

- Adheres to Company policy relative to technical guidelines and change management processes.

 

- Transfers technical knowledge to other associates using communications and documentation skills.

 

- Understands complex business processes and transforms them into programming logic.

 

- Top-level technical expert in one or more highly specialized areas of applications systems analysis and programming.

 

- Acts independently under general direction.

 

- Provides technical leadership on complex projects.

 

- Acts as expert in business or functional area.

 

- Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time and form of desired results.

 

- Ability to train lower level staff on technical aspects of the job.

 

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

 

Has full technical knowledge of all phases of applications and systems development, including analysis, design, programming, testing and deployment.  Understands at an enterprise level communications technology, hardware/platforms, database technology, web technology, security and enterprise management.  Has hands-on experience developing and supporting a production website.

 

Required:

- 3+ years Java programming experience

- Java Enterprise Architecture (EJB?s, JDBC, JNDI, etc.)

- Object Oriented Design

- Relational Databases

- Linux/UNIX

- MySQL Database Server, especially administration

- JBoss Application Server, especially administration

- Struts

- HTML, JavaScript

- XML

 

Preferred:

- Health Insurance Industry experience

- Hibernate

- Velocity

- Web Services

- LAN/WAN

- TCP/IP

- MS Office

- MS Access

 

Education:

 

Requires a bachelor's degree
