Sr. iSeries (AS/400) RPG Programmer/Analyst

 

CustomCall provides billing and back-office support for telecommunication providers. We are currently seeking a professional lead iSeries (i5 and AS/400) RPG Programmer Analyst with solid IT experience to join our team. We are currently upgrading to a new i5 system. The successful candidate will be responsible to maintain and enhance our existing systems (using RPG and SQL on iSeries), while contributing in the development of new applications using the latest technology and resources to support our evolving business requirements. The Programmer Analyst will be responsible for managing and executing all tasks throughout the application development lifecycle including project plan, analysis, technical design/document, development, testing, implementation and documentation for small to highly complex projects. Knowledge of cross-platform integration is helpful. 

 

Primary responsibilities:



Development:  Participate in analysis of business needs; enhance processes through programming changes according to corporate direction and priorities.  Research and implement cost-effective, reliable iSeries technology advancements to benefit the company. 

 

Essential Job Functions

? Map out strategies for programs to support new and revised business requirements

? Maintain ever-changing methods of handling data

? Write code, thoroughly test and debug new or revised programs to ensure accurate functioning

? Develop system documentation as needed including user guides, flow charts, etc.

? Develop methodologies, procedures and policies for iSeries application development

? Communicate with upper management and users to understand requirements and expected outcomes

? Participate in automating daily iSeries system operations

? Participate in installation of regular software updates

? Provide support to users and IT personnel as needed

? Keep management informed of project/task staff performance and status

 

Requirements, Skills and Abilities

Education, Technical Experience and Abilities

? Bachelor?s degree in CS, CIS or MIS or equivalent experience/technical training

? Minimum 2 years iSeries RPG programming experience developing business applications in an iSeries (OS/400) environment

? Comprehensive understanding of iSeries system architecture, and operating system

? Advanced skills in RPG Programming, CL, SQL, stored procedures

? Understanding of iSeries network architecture and interfaces to other systems and devices such as PC applications, SQL server, Client Access

? Must be adept at learning, evaluating and applying emerging technologies

? Prior project management, planning and implementation experience is a plus

? Ability to handle a variety of tasks at one time and use time effectively to complete tasks within established time frame

? Ability to work independently while focusing on project detail, timely delivery and system quality

? Ability to have a technical, practical and application understanding of business requirements and systems/programs

? Good written and verbal communication and organizational skills

? Maintain professional and positive attitude with coworkers

Other Desired/Beneficial Skills:

? Experience with XML is highly desirable

? Experience with WebSphere
