Technical Program Manager - Item Data Management

The IDMT Team is responsible for redefining how Amazon creates and manages product information for domestic and international Amazon retail sites. Our primary objective is to improve the efficiency and scalability of this process. The scope of these initiatives require us to recruit a high-energy, talented individual who can manage innovation and execution. This is a high visibility position and requires sound decision making capabilities.

The IDMT TPM reports to the IDMT team leader and will be responsible for leading and developing international enterprise applications. The applications must enable a seamless customer experience across all data channels, and for all item management tasks. This position requires the direct management of engineering staff and matrix management and coordination with other project managers, architects, engineers, operations and QA resources.

The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle, from gathering customer requirements to defining the strategy and architecture, through deployment and support. The TPM will be responsible for working with the IDMT team leader to further develop and refine the software development processes.

* BS in CS or related field; advanced degree preferred (e.g. MS, PhD. in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical engineering).

* 10+ years significant experience in software development.

* 5+ years managing teams in an Internet/Java/J2EE or C#/.net, Unix, Middleware, database and development environment.

* 5+ years of technology management experience, including at least 3 years leading 5+ person organizations.

* Prior hands-on software engineering experience.

* Experienced at leading development life cycle process and best practices, significant mentoring in a technical organization.

* Excellent written/verbal communication, presentation, and listening skills, with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences, including non-technical.

* Experience with RUP, UML, XP, and OOAD&P.

* A proven track record of delivering large-scale, highly available systems and quality software products or components.
