Technical Writer/Editor - Software

We are seeking to hire a Technical Writer/Editor experienced in the software industry. We are seeking to hire an employee for this 8 to 12 month contract position. Responsibilities:
? Provide communication, research, and analytical direction in the development of critical business and technical project documents.
? Coordinate all documentation efforts
? Lead the development of all application help facilities
? Create critical User, Application, and Technical training manuals
? Assesses the usability of existing documentation and recommends enhancements to improve their readability.
? Create and maintain project style sheets for assigned documentation and Web projects.
? Conduct peer reviews of documents created by other team members.
? Work with Client Division staff and provide knowledge transfer and/or mentoring that will provide the background for ongoing development, maintenance, and support
? Document all aspects of the work performed within the division guidelines Required Skills
? Expert level communication skills ? oral and written
? Extensive experience creating application help facilities
? Extensive experience in similar assignments
? Able to serve as mentor to client staff
? Excellent technical communication, research, and analytical skills
? Outstanding audience analysis skills and ability to tailor communication to fit needs of diverse audiences
? Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in collaborating and negotiating with authors and technical area specialists
? Ability to assimilate technical concepts quickly and present technical information clearly and concisely for technical and non-technical audiences
? Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and proofreaders' marks
? Able to observe and interview technical and business personnel as they perform project tasks
? Ability to work independently, yet seek guidance when necessary
? Ability to meet tight deadlines and adjust to changing priorities

? Appropriate MS Office tools
? Help authoring tools
? Intranet development / authoring
? Help Desk environment experience
? Language Sensitive Editor (LSE)
