Technology Consultant - #2468

Summary This position is responsible for providing advanced technology support to the campus community. Specific responsibilities will include support for computer systems (including Macintosh/ PC computer platforms, and PDAs), database systems, and servers. This person will also coordinate annual planning for evolving technology, order computer equipment, provide system maintenance and trouble shooting, install software and facilitates information exchange within and between groups. Additional responsibilities: provide or act as a liaison to CMG (hardware repairs), Computer Education (training), Instructional Technology (conference room set-up and support), Operations (backups/restores), Datacomm (networking issues), Abuse (security issues), Administrative Computing (Admin. application support, i.e. oracle, HREM, ADI), manufacturer (application support or warranty issues, and other projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience; Valid Driver's license; 4 or more years demonstrated experience in supporting computer networks, desktops, databases, and server systems. Experience in a customer service position; Excellent technical skills; effective interpersonal skills; assertiveness and diplomacy; strong written and oral communication skills; strong project management skills; strong analytical, organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; Ability to lift 50 lbs; able to travel to other campus locations, walking and bending; Work is performed in office setting. Close contact with CRT for long periods of time; Ability to work under pressure; ability to meet inflexible deadlines; deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure; work with frequent interruptions; Evening and weekend work may be required;

Preferred Requirements

Additional course work, seminars, workshops, etc., in computer technology and/or applications and/or certifications in network operations, system administration and/or security; Experience in an academic setting as well as experience providing service to customers; Programming skills, VBScript, HTML, JavaScript
