VP of Development

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  This individual will be the manager and leader of a team of highly skilled engineers, quality analysts, and technical writers. They will direct activities to design new products, modify existing designs, and develop testing designs and procedures. The VP will oversee and be accountable for the quality of work product and processes of the development team. This individual also will be responsible for overseeing the architecture and design of the company?s engineering efforts. The successful candidate will have excellent direct management and leadership ability as well as skills to develop a strong team to develop products that meet specifications, costs, and schedule and are easily installable and supportable. This individual will report directly to the CEO.

 

 

DUTIES:

? Manage a multi-disciplined team of developers, quality analysts, and technical writers

? Manage day-to-day decisions of project technical teams, work assignments, and product delivery

? Work with internal engineering teams and customers to develop detailed specifications and requirements for a variety of products

? Create detailed development plans, prioritize work assignments and assign projects based on available resources

? Set clear objectives for direct reports and compare deliverables against objectives

? Collaborate with the development team to ensure that all work product developed are maintainable, configurable, and that all processes are well-documented

? Implement sound engineering process and procedures

? Ensure that the development team is following a defined development process throughout the project/ product lifecycle

? Provide guidance and training to engineers, motivate individuals to achieve results, recruit and maintain a high quality staff

? Interface with customers as required

? Interface with internal sales and business development teams so as to synchronize internal expectations of work product with customer expectations

? Perform and participate in design reviews of software

? Ensure all projects comply with industry security standards

? Analyze and discern the need for additional resource including in-house resources, contractors, or off-shoring

? Ensure all new projects are designed to be easily installed and supported

? Other duties as required

 

REQUIREMENTS:

? 5+ years of management or team leading

? 10+ years of hands on engineering experience

? Strong leadership skills and tact are required

? Must have familiarity with all aspects of product design and development

? Market-driven engineering experience is preferred

? Must work well under work environments with multiple deadline pressures.

? Ability to work with all levels of the organization and motivate employees

? Strong business acumen and professionalism, with solid communication skills both verbal and written.

? Proven track record of on-time, on-budget application delivery

? Capable of delivering presentations and demos to customers in a professional manner

? Ability to coordinate engineering efforts of many (15+) project efforts simultaneously within a small company environment.

? Excellent problem-solving skills with strong focus on execution.

? Must be highly organized, driven, self-motivated, and focused.

? Must be fluent in spoken and written English.

? Knowledge of handheld and wireless device standards a plus

? Requires some travel, local and domestic

? Experience with the management of e-commerce development projects desirable

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

? Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related degree is required

? Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Computer Science is highly preferred

? MBA is also a significant plus

 


CHARACTER:

 

This individual will be a critical member of the Company?s Executive Team.  They will provide oversight of the Engineering and Product Development teams assisting in the direction and leadership of new projects and product design. We are looking for someone with the maturity, work ethic, commitment, and motivation to do whatever it takes to get the job done right. It is very important that the individual have communication skills to work effectively with others and lead customer interactions. They must also be a team player and dedicate themselves to the team goals and contributing significantly towards the success of a growing small business. Candidate must be able to see and execute to the ?big picture?, while maintaining focus on delivering to key metrics. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated professionalism, excellent communication and social skills. Must have proven management skills and the ability to motivate a staff of engineers. Must be self-starters who are not fazed by unexpected events. Must be smart, mature, self confident, flexible and adaptable team player.
