We are seeking a contract Web Designer/Developer to work with our Technical Services team.  This is a creative position working in a production environment.  Your work will be seen by high profile clients and huge user populations.  We create world class educational content that matches the look and feel of our Fortune 500 clients.Responsibilities:

In this position, you will work closely with:

? Developers to help turn a mockup into a live site.

? QA engineers to verify the quality of the site.

? Management to prioritize work and schedules.

? Designers to collaborate on all creative activities

 

The primary focus for this position includes:Creating standards-compliant XHTML/CSS layouts without the use of a WYSIWYG editor from comps.Integrating XHTML/CSS to build cross-browser compatible jsp driven websites that provide our education content with a look and feel that is seamless with our Fortune 500 client companies.  Image creation and manipulation in support of site development and maintenance.

 

Typical tasks:Transform a layered Photoshop file into standards-compliant, cross-browser  CSS and semantic XHTMLEnsure a seamless user experience integration by blending our clients? style with Powered?s back-end platform and front-end coding practicesIntegrate markup and CSS with server-side templates which utilize JSP and JSTL to provide the education center functionalityRequired Skills:Ability to interact with other designers, developers and account managers.Ability to manage the workload for several projects simultaneously.A thorough understanding of the full web request lifecycle for dynamically driven websites.Familiarity with source code management systems.Adroit use of Adobe PhotoShop.Professional experience writing standards-compliant, cross-browser CSS from scratch.Deep understanding of HTML as used in dynamically generated web sites, and design/layout pitfalls to avoidDemonstrated experience with JSP, PHP, or other server-side scripting languages.Demonstrated experience leveraging a preexisting framework to develop data driven sites.Experience with dynamic, database driven, content management systems.

 

Please provide a portfolio of work or list of URL?s to help demonstrate your design/development experience.  These sites should demonstrate skill in leveraging CSS atop semantic markup.

 

NOTE: This position must work most days in our offices in beautiful downtown Austin, right on Sixth Street!  We can?t accommodate remote employees for this role.
