Web Maintenance Specialist

SUMMARY:

The CERT? Program is part of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. CERT engages in cutting-edge research and development, and provides robust training and education programs focused on ensuring that software developers, Internet security experts, network and system administrators, and others are able to resist, recognize, and recover from attacks on networked systems.

The person in this position is a member of the CERT Information Services Team, which develops and disseminates information about internet security, both on the web and in print form. The individual will provide direct support for maintaining the quality of three web sites, publishing content updates, and ensuring that documented procedures are kept up to date. The individual will also assist in the development and production of information for technical and non-technical audiences and sponsors.



Education/Training: Bachelor?s degree in a communication-related field and training in web usability principle with three years applicable experience; coursework and/or training in web page design and other aspects of online communication, document design, HTML, and desktop publishing; or equivalent combination of training and work.


Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience with web page formatting and desktop publishing. Experience with both UNIX and with Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint. Experience working in a team environment.


Skills/Abilities: Strong copy editing, proofreading, and web publishing skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks, respond to shifting priorities, and pay careful attention to details. Ability to work independently on routine web tasks and other defined tasks. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work in a team environment with technical experts, professional writers, and administrative assistants.


Mobility: Normal sedentary position with some mobility, i.e., able to travel throughout the SEI facilities and to various campus locations, as well as to customer sites.


Environmental Conditions: Excellent office setting; contact with computer screen and use of keyboard for prolonged periods.
