 CONSTRUCTION COST ACCOUNTANT / BUSINESS MANAGER

 

This exempt position requires the knowledge and construction industry experience to apply accounting principles to compile, account for and analyze construction costs and financial information, including the preparation of relevant reports.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Compiles, accounts for and analyzes construction cost data related to payroll, equipment, subcontracts, permanent materials and overheads.  Ensures integrity of cost data, including proper cost entry, allocations and accruals. Assists in the verification and reconciliation of construction quantities.Tracks and maintains proper project cost budgets including owner and subcontract change orders.Performs budget variance analysis on cost and billing information Prepare and enter cost accounting journal entries and assist in monthly closing process of the general ledger.Assists project managers in generation and analysis of project cost to complete analyses and financial forecasts, including revenue, margin and cash flow.Coordinates and monitors compliance with cost accounting best practices and internal control procedures.Communicates frequently with project team personnel and business unit management regarding financial status of construction projects.Assist project team to ensure timely and accurate billings to project owner.Maintain awareness of company purchasing best practices and procedures, including tracking subcontracts and purchase orders.Assists project team in other ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as necessary.Performs other miscellaneous projects as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Candidate must have demonstrated leadership skills and a minimum of 4-6 years of experience in the construction industry.  Strong cost accounting experience with heavy/civil construction in a self-perform environment is a plus.  A Bachelor?s Degree in accounting, finance or economics is preferred.  A CPA or CMA is a plus.  Knowledge of MS Office and Excel is required.
