Construction Estimator

The BE&K Government Group is currently seeking a Construction Estimator located at BE&K?s Headquarters in Birmingham, AL.  

 

Job Summary:

 

The Estimator is a part of a project's estimating team and may be responsible for advanced quantity surveys of self-performed work along with quantification of select subcontractor trades.  Estimators work as members of the bid team on large, complex projects, or may be in charge of small to medium-sized projects. Required qualifications include:

 Conduct quantity take-off and studies for all items incorporated in the project and anticipating details necessary to complete the project.Coordinate the work of estimators, subcontractors, and assistants.Prepare preliminary estimates and studies during pre-construction, and monitor design development cost trends in order to detect over-runs and potential problem areas. Interface with subcontractors and suppliers and evaluate proposals relative to the scope of the work.Prepare General Conditions estimates and participate in the value engineering process.Interface with project owners and internal project team.Support Business Development in proposal presentations.Maintain EEO compliances and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Job Requirements:

 Minimum of five years of estimating experience with projects in the $10MM to $100 MM range is required. Thorough knowledge of pre-construction services, including RFP's, procurement, contracts, building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices. Experience with design build projects, project engineering, field supervision, or purchasing is desired.  Government DOD construction project experience as well as knowledge of the subcontractor market in the Birmingham, Al and Gulf Coast region is preferred. Examples of Government DOD include laboratory, research and administration buildings, training centers, weapons stations, commissaries, elementary schools, military housing, etc.Ability to self-perform cost estimates for all phases of a project; and to create independent cost analyses as required.Must possess excellent computer skills and be proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook, and the use of a Digitizer. Experience in ISQFT and WinEx preferred.Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

 

Education:

 Minimum of BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Science.
