ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR: WARM, HIGH MORALE ENVIRONMENT
ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR: WARM, HIGH MORALE ENVIRONMENT
We are a unique, successful, professionally managed, well financed, stable and high integrity mid-sized electrical construction company looking for a right fit estimator. We see estimating as more than a good count, and would like to find a person who would like to build a career with us refining skills that include electrical design and value engineering, client interface, technical construction circumstances expertise, and risk analysis.
Presently we are a $15 ? 20 million-dollar annual sales level business. We have an impressive backlog and we have many annuity clients. Even now we are using the tools of the $100+ million dollar firms in terms of business management, estimating, and reporting. The estimator that will be happy here is a person that wants to have a very direct hand in taking a 15 million dollar business to 50 million and beyond. We have critical mass and history. We have the financial depth. We have carefully planned growth and have thematic company goals related to business niches we are going to pursue. We have added the necessary systems, departments and key staff members to grow but need to find a key person in estimating.
What we have to offer you is reason, consideration, good judgment, courtesy and integrity in every dimension of personal and professional conduct on the part of ownership. We are nice people with good minds, good sense of values, good business heads, honesty, patience and the ability to listen and many years of success in the electrical construction business. We have the desire to evolve and improve, not to defend old traditions or habits that are outmoded or ineffective. We have demonstrated genuine business integrity for many years, we do work that exhibits a high level of craftsmanship and have that reputation, and we have been rewarded by client loyalty because of it. Here there is interpersonal integrity, and an environment in which you will be a critical and necessary part of our overall business, and you will really be able to steer the success of the whole company.
This is a business that has a very open management style. We listen. There are not layers of complex rules, piles of limits or regulations and procedures in place to make every step difficult. There is a very high level of morale, professional informality, and we enjoy knowing one another personally. Our culture is designed to provide a friendly working environment with the mission of growth and security by being shrewder, better prepared, and smarter than the competition, rather than by burning out employees or by making unrealistic demands. We support the quality personal / family lives of our employees. We keep our staff, and we share the money with our staff as part of the design of the company.
The business is a family business, but family participation is very small and the couple of us that is related here are here long hours, work our butts off and earn our keep. We do not have any ?freeloading? relatives, protected in-laws or buddies on the payroll. The only two titles that are probably out of reach are president and CEO. Probably. No other barriers at all.
We are an open book style management company, and we have a bonus program that is defined by net profit. Few private contractors of any size share detailed financial information with management the way we do, and we have established bonus program goals we have lived up to. We put the money in the fund and wrote the checks and are very happy to share the victories.
Our business is operated from a positive cash position. We maintain a line of credit far in excess of our needs. Vendors all call on us. Bills are paid net 10th and we take discounts. We retain our clients. We have strong bonding capacity even though bonded work is a smaller percentage of our overall picture.
Employees stay with us because we are a better place to be. We have a team that is satisfied with the work they do, the way they are treated, compensated and they are provided with career path and opportunity.
We have put every system in place with capacity to allow this company to sustain growth under control. Our accounting system, for example, is the same system used by the largest constructors in the country, and we chose is because it is effective and can grow with us.
We have a dedicated estimating department, and a dedicated service-estimator in the service department. We need a senior member for the central estimating department that has some evolved estimating skills, perhaps even some proven value engineering talent.
The person we are looking for comes up through a self-performing electrical contractor?s business that does commercial, public works and light industrial work with mid- sized electrical constructions. Our general/routine projects are in the $50,000.00 ? $500,000.00 range, and our largest projects this year were in the $3-4 million dollar range. We are an open shop and lines of communications are wide open. You will be able to bounce things off of project managers or superintendents as you see fit, to be able to address technical field issues and refine labor units. We have found that the disciplines used to put together an estimate are the precise disciplines it takes to really know and understand a job. Whether you bring technical insight from the field or derive insight from our seasoned electrical pros, good construction circumstances knowledge elevates and refines a good estimate into a shrewd market approach with considerations for build issues, value engineering possibilities, and a set of tactics for taking the proposal to the client in a unique way.
Even though the job is a technical office position and might seem to be a non-public role we feel need political skills and just plain wisdom in our key estimators. You need to be pretty smart to do this job right. We also want a person that has a ?do what needs to be done? heart and will not be frustrated by the occasional need to do something that is traditionally not in their box.
Estimating involves analyzing variables beyond those that come from a good take-off with the goal being the identification of and capture of good business for the company, providing us with an opportunity to perform the work and to make money. There may be a time when you make a decision to do a favor for a general contractor or client that represents and annuity client when that client can be counted upon to return the favor at some later date or in some other way. Lots of complex judgment calls must be made, and the need to make solid and clear decisions will be part of the job. We would like to find a pro that knows how to make friends and how to make it very easy for clients to work with them. Accommodating the needs of the estimators in the general construction firms we do business with, giving helpful tips to developers, working smoothly with the vendors: These are all things a great estimator does.
