FITTER 

 

Fitting structural steel components in preparation for welding.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

? Capable of passing MHPI fitting test

? Basic ability to read fabrication drawings and details, including basic computations of dimensions.

? Has working knowledge of various welding processes and procedures.

? Experienced with SMAW, GMAW and FCAW processes

? Routine Oxy-Acetylene cutting ability

? Knowledge of safe shop practices, and general industrial safety & quality requirements

? Minimal supervision needed

? Has worked with hand and power tools in an industrial environment

? Overhead bridge and jib crane experience

? Accurate use of common fabrication measuring devices

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

? Performs all job functions in safe manner

? Maintains clean, safe work area

? Assure proper fit-up of steel parts and verifies that correct materials are used to

  make ready for the welding operation. Tack welds and grinds as needed. Prepares joints/connections as needed.

? Verifies all dimensions and specifications are in accordance with fabrication drawings.

? Perform dimensional checks of self and others.

? Assist in training of Class 3 Fitters

? Supportive interaction with Foremen and Leadmen

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

? Experience with structural steel, fabrication, reading prints, assembly practices, and industrial equipment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSConstantly bends, stoops and crouches.  Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up  to 50 Ibs.

 

Must pass background check and drug screen.
