DESCRIPTION
Receives and labels tissue specimens, processes in autotechnicon, embeds in paraffin, slices paraffin tissue blocks into sections, mounts on slides, and stains as appropriate. Coverslips and labels each slide. Prepares frozen sections. Delivers prepared slides to pathologist. Maintains files for paraffin blocks and slides. Maintains cutting instruments and other equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for processing tissues for analysis on animal studies.

Follow lab SOP's which involves staining, cutting, logging in, gross trimming, archiving etc.

Slide Processing, 80% plastic, 15% parafin. Plastic Steps include: Log in tissue, Gross tissue, Dehydration, Infiltration, Embedding, Blocking, Microtomy, Slide Prep, Routine and Special Stains, Quality control, Ship to Morphometry/Pathologist

Parafin Processing

SEM- Scanning Electron Microscopy Prep

Cryomicrotomy

Conduct routine maintenance of equipment

No interpretation or analysis of tissues required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum: 2-5 years experience in biological laboratory setting, degree in Biology or Life Sciences field. Strict attention to detail, manual dexterity, MS Office, and background in histological techniques preferred.
Preferred: 2 yr degree and HT certification. Less laboratory experience required from candidates with HT certification
