Summary:

The purpose of this role is to facilitate management's assessment of internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in the continuing development and implementation of SOX compliance activities including monitoring, change management and assessment of the effectiveness of design and operation of controls within all relevant business process area;
- Coordinate the ongoing assessment of internal controls on an annual basis, for review and approval by management;
- Coordinate with Nexen Inc.?s SOX group and external auditors on compliance activities and SOX attestation work;
- Coordinate responsibilities for business process owners regarding the quarterly and annual assertion process to support SOX regulatory requirements.  This includes documentation, assessment of controls and control changes, development of action plans to address internal control gaps, reporting and assertions;
- Manage the continuing implementation and maintenance of the SOX monitoring tool;
- Provide training, coaching and other support as required to business process owners and their staff to satisfy SOX and related requirements;

Education/Experience Requirements:

- Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or related discipline;
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, such as general accounting, financial reporting, or internal audit (or ideally, a combination thereof);
- Must have experience and expertise in Sarbanes Oxley compliance;
- CPA and public accounting experience preferred;
- Experience in the oil & gas industry preferred;
- Prefer experience with project management;
- Must have effective interpersonal skills;
- Must have a strong attention to detail, but also have the ability to see the big picture.
