Line Electrician
Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
This position requires a Team oriented person who will be responsible for the safe completion of routine and non-routine repairs, as well as, performing preventative maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting of substations, power distribution systems, switchgear motors, motor controls, systems and components, process controls, instrumentation and pneumatic equipment, and miscellaneous industrial lighting and wiring. Other areas of responsibility include the knowledge to safely and effectively operate and maintain overhead cranes, ore processing equipment and fire protection systems. Position requires driving over state highways. Willing and able to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime at a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week, 365 day/year operation. Other Duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Completion of an approved four-year electrical/instrumentation certification program or minimum of five years experience in electrical/instrumentation repair and maintenance.
- Experience with medium and high voltage equipment.
- Experience working with DC voltages.
- Experience with AC and/or DC control systems
- Knowledge of NEC
- Experience with instrumentation
- Experience with diagnostic electrical test equipment
- Experience in troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electrical circuits and connected equipment. This includes:
- Ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, prints, and schematics for trouble shooting and repair.
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid State Drivers License
- Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company.
- Satisfactory performance record (internal applicant)
- Must have minimum personal tools as described by department tool list. (Or must obtain within 90 days of hire date.)
- Must successfully pass the pre-employment color perception exam.
- Must successfully pass the pre-employment electrical/instrumentation exam.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to develop work scopes for small projects including specification development
- Maintenance/Construction/Industry experience
- Bridge Crane experience
- Substation maintenance and switching experience
Criteria/Conditions (specific background and skills):
- Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
- Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required.
