Nuvera currently has the following position available in its Cambridge, MA location.  (Please note: We will be relocating to Billerica, MA in May 2007.)

 

Nuvera is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our team.  Under the general supervision of the Manager of Technical Services and the guidance of Manufacturing staff and senior technicians: you will work with R&D engineers and Manufacturing staff to build and improve prototype and pre-production fuel cell power and reformer systems.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

?  Perform routine mechanical technical duties in the fabrication, testing, debugging and documentation of simple assemblies, modules and systems associated with prototype and pre-production products using a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.

?  Follow verbal instructions and written directions from specifications, technical manuals and engineering sketches to perform technical responsibilities.

?  Instrument, load and pressure test fuel-processing reactors, including catalyst handling that requires the use of a respirator according to both written documentation and verbal guidance.

?  Assist with the build of fuel processing and fuel cell systems, including mounting fuel processing reactors, and associated equipment and valves, controls, pumps, heat exchangers, using stainless steel tubing and associated compression/threaded fittings.

?  Work with sheet metal and custom machined components to build stainless steel fuel cell system components primarily with typical metal working power tools. 

?  Service prototype builds within the company including replacing components, fixing system problems and re-plumbing units in the field.  Troubleshoot, modify and repair complex mechanical devices, systems, mechanisms and controls. 

?  Assist in performing scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance as well as installation of systems in the field.  Record maintenance activities and provide feedback to engineer personnel.

?  Perform additional tasks and/or special projects as requested.

 

 

Job Qualifications:Educational Background

?  High/Trade School diploma or equivalent required.  Technical school training beyond High/Trade School is preferred. 

 

Previous Work Experience

?  Entry level to three years of relevant work experience typical.

 

Special Skills and Abilities

?  Basic mechanical and assembly skills required.

?  Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, measuring devices (e.g. calipers and micrometers), and plumbing runs with piping and tubing, tube and sheet metal bending required.

?  Ability to read and work from prints, P&IDs and sketches a plus.

?  Familiarity with compression fitting and welding a plus.

▪  Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills needed.

?  Self-starter and team player traits needed.

?  Ability and willingness to work the Company?s business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. required. Flexibility to work overtime a must. Regular attendance is required to perform the position's essential job responsibilities.

 Physical requirements/work environment

▪  Shop-floor and laboratory work environment that requires the ability to work with and around operational machinery including lathes, shears, brakes, drill presses, milling machines, band saws, belt sanders and presses. 

▪  Ability to maneuver in tight areas and work in awkward positions is required.

▪  Ability to lift components weighing up to 35 lbs. is required.

▪  Ability to operate mechanical and hydraulic equipment to assist in lifting heavy components required.  

 

Travel Required

▪  Up to 5 % domestic as well as international travel may be required.
