MILLWORK SHOP MANAGER

 

We're working with a very well regarded Boston-based GC to help them hire a Millwork Shop Manager for their millwork division.  They've been self-performing high end commercial/institutional millwork for their clients for many years, and are now looking to take their shop to the next level.

They currently run over 7000SF of well laid-out shop space and produce just under 1M of millwork annually.  The founders are down-to-earth, good natured, likeable guys who seem inclined to let their staff do what they're good at.  In other words... they're almost the EXACT OPPOSITE of 'micro managers'.

We're looking for someone who can help them improve the productivity and profitability of their millwork enterprise.  We need someone who really knows what they're looking at when they visit a job site for the first time to spec a project.  We also need a leader who can identify the strengths and liabilities on the current staff, and make accurate projections for what the shop can reliably produce.

** The biggest single problem they have now is that they don't know what they can reasonably PROMISE and DELIVER for their long-term, repeat clients.  We need someone who can help them solve this.**

To do well in this role you've probably been in a high-end commercial millwork environment for most of your career in progressively more responsible roles.  I think that a strong Millwork Project Manager could potentially do a bang-up job at this company and in this role, since you're already accustomed to estimating work, and most good PM's run multiple jobs.  If you've run 1M-2M in work per year, this should be a reasonable transition and could be a very interesting opportunity to run the whole show.
