National Construction Manager

Position Overview

We are looking for a senior level professional with extensive experience deploying and managing roadway and signal construction projects on a distributed nationwide basis.  The position is for Vice President / National Construction Manager. This individual will be responsible for ATS and third party sub contracted construction teams and activities.  ATS?s construction activities include construction of company owned infrastructure at traffic intersections across the country.  The National Construction Manger will direct and oversee team of internal Construction Managers, Installation Coordinators and external subcontractors.  This position will be based out of Scottsdale, AZ and requires someone living in commuting distance to Scottsdale, AZ.

 

Responsibilities

The National Construction Manager will:

? Be responsible for all development, process improvement and standardization of ATS?s construction project related activities including coordinated handoffs between planning & engineering, construction and implementation.

? Ensuring that ATS?s projects are on time, on budget, of quality workmanship, and are done efficiently and effectively.

? Must manage and drive multiple construction project plans simultaneously.

? Manage a team of Construction Managers and Installation Coordinators stationed in the east, central and western parts of the US.

? Be responsible for overall subcontractor contracting, negotiations, performance, accountability and results.

? Ensure that project status reporting is done accurately and routinely to the broader project and management team.

? Coordinate construction related activities with Program/Project Managers in Planning & Engineering.

? Recommend, take and manage actions when field work is not going according to plan or when plans need to be modified

? Develop a high skill, high value, performance driven team in the construction group

? Ensure all work in field is perfomed to the relevant standards and specifications

? Ensure that budgets for installation projects and the construction are accurate and available.

? Develop strong, positive working relationship?s with ATS staff and Subcontractors

? Train subcontractors as required

? Assess equipment requirements in field and plan accordingly

? Ensure that delivery of utilities such as power and communications are on time, budget and specification.

? Provide documentation as required by ATS

? Willingness to travel up to as required to ensure team is performing effectively; 40-75% of time

? Interface with ATS?s municipal clients as required

 

Experience Required

? 7+ years experience in Construction Management

? Direct experience rolling out and managing construction management activities on a national scale

? Experience working with traffic intersection related construction (loops, piezos, and/or video detection)

? Experience managing teams of people and subcontractors

? Strong reporting and analytical skill sets

? Proficient with Microsoft Project for plan development, tracking and completion.

? 5+ years experience with Windows operating systems and applications like MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

? High proficiency working with engineering plans and permits

? Associates and/or Bachelors Degree

? Strong organizational and planning skills

Individual works well within a team environment overseeing, managing and motivating a group of people to high levels of performance.  Individual should also have skills to effectively manage subcontractor and client relationships in a manner that reflects positively on ATS. Strong communications skills such that senior ATS management and teams within ATS can be kept up to speed on developments as needed.  Ability to exercise good judgment and manage multiple projects simultaneously critical.

Physical Environment

Position will require some travel throughout the United States and Canada as well as the potential for periodic international travel.  Some work outdoors required.  Predominant activities will be from ATS?s Scottsdale Office.
