Quality Engineer - New Product Development

Hand Held Products is the Global Leader in the design and manufacture of image-based data collection solutions. As a New Product Development (NPD) Quality Engineer, you will provide technical support to Engineering, Production, Procurement and Quality Management to minimize costs and maximize customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for specific product line integrity from cradle to grave. The scope of this position includes process definition and redesign, tool development, establishment of workmanship standards, supplier quality assurance, internal auditing and providing leadership to Quality Control personnel.


You will provide technical support for New Product Development with respect to cost effective, reliable process controls, design qualification, inspection procedures/ techniques, and quality plans for new products to assure error free launch. You will lead failure mode analysis and determination of appropriate corrective actions; recording and communicating reject information at an engineering level through established channels. You may provide training to internal departments on quality principles and practices. In conjunction with the Supplier QA team and with respect to new products you will conduct supplier assessment audits, review corrective action proposals and provide technical support for nonconforming material, working with supply base to improve overall business performance. Your participation in configuration control activities will include review and approval of design and process changes for measurability, consistency, and impacts to products, processes or other areas of the business, recommending changes to Engineering, Production, Quality and Marketing documentation as appropriate. You will initiate, review and approve quality system procedures defining quality acceptance criteria in accordance with agency regulations and corporate standards and initiate continuous improvement activities as appropriate. You will also perform statistical experiments such as product qualification testing, process capability studies, and fitness-for-use analysis. Occasionally, you will act in a project manager role on special initiatives involving quality, customer or business issues.


B.S. degree in Engineering or other technical discipline required and 7 years professional experience or a Masters degree with 5 years experience, with at least 2 years in the Quality function. Communication, interpersonal, and organization building skills must be excellent. You must be able to collaborate with other departments to effectively create quality awareness. Regulatory and agency knowledge is desirable. Proficiency in database development and system integration required.
