RCM Technician - Tribology
Job Description
Major Responsibilities
The goal of the Reliability Centered Maintenance Group is to achieve higher equipment availability and lower maintenance costs through predictive maintenance technologies. This goal is realized by regularly scheduled monitoring of equipment with predictive technologies and coordinating the necessary maintenance through teamwork with other maintenance and operations personnel, including but not limited to supervision, planning, engineering, and field personnel.
This position requires travel to other facilities and interaction with vendors, contractors and company personnel; any and all business must be conducted in a professional manner as a representative of Phelps Dodge. This position requires a responsible, self-motivated person who is able to work efficiently with minimal supervision. This position requires working in confined spaces and tight corridors, as well as, working closely around moving, rotating, electrically energized, and elevated equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The typical RCM work schedule is M-F, A shift and is setup and modified as needed to accommodate the most effective RCM for the equipment. The plant is a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week, 365 day/year operation; this position requires a person who is willing and able to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime. This position also includes other duties as may be assigned.
The RCM technicians monitor equipment within, but not limited to, the following areas: Hydrometallurgical, Power Distribution, Water System, Crushing & Conveying, Mine (Shovels, Drills, Haulage) and outlying areas. This technician's duties will include but not be limited to the following:
*oil sample collection
*analysis of tribology data
*utilization of the current software review, analyze, and report tribology data
*report building/giving presentations utilizing various software programs
*daily planning, including but not limited to MSTs and work orders utilizing the current CMMS
*data collection, analysis and reporting utilizing the following technologies:
*infrared thermography
*vibration
*ultrasonics
*motor test equipment
*commutator profiling
*corona test equipment
*learn various RCM/PdM technologies, primarily oil analysis and the associated software with future development into additional technologies
*support the RCM Program and its continual development
*educate other personnel in any area of the RCM Program
*communicate effectively to provide, receive, and implement constructive feedback to support the mentoring program
Minimum Requirements
*Minimum of 4 years mechanical experience with industrial equipment (pumps, motors, gearboxes, pulleys, etc.) that includes:
*a working knowledge and understanding of moving and rotating equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes and conveyors, from an operations and maintenance perspective, mechanically and electrically.
*journeyman level ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals and other reference materials.
*Ability to work in a team with a high regard for safety and environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to policies.
*Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company.
*Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
*Possess Level II certification or obtain within 1 year of hire date.
*High school diploma or GED.
*Valid state driver's license.
*Satisfactory performance record (internal applicant).
*Have passed the PD math test with a score of 75% or higher within the last year.
Preferred Qualifications
*Computer experience with current CMMS (internal applicant), AutoCAD and MS Access.
*Completed AVO training, Confined Space training, and LOTOTO (internal applicant).
*Previous experience with oil sample collection, oil cleanliness, and oil analysis.
*Certifications in oil analysis, preferably from Noria (or equivalent).
*Certifications in other RCM technologies.
*Working knowledge and understanding of Global RCM Team (internal applicant).
*Working knowledge and understanding of RCM standard processes (internal applicant).
*Experience with cost benefit analysis.
*Experience with RCFA.
*Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and apply information from prints, drawings, and schematics.
Criteria/Conditions
* Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles, and large mobile equipment.
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
* Will be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
* Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required.
