Sr. Preconstruction Manager

M. A. Mortenson Company is currently looking to hire a Sr. Preconstruction Manager to work on power projects.  This position is located in our Minneapolis Office.  Minimal travel is required. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


The Preconstruction Manager will lead the preconstruction phase of the electrical, structural, and civil engineering disciplines of our wind projects. This includes:

 
Performing market research and identifying wind project opportunities.
Developing and building relationships and networks with wind energy peers including project developers, turbine vendors, utility/energy company decision makers, and engineers.
Supporting project teams to facilitate designs which incorporate constructability and logistics solutions.
Providing meaningful input to the project?s programming and conceptual design activities.
Coordinating design team members and pre-construction services (i.e. estimating, scheduling, project planning, constructability, site utilization, etc.) 
Integrating 3D/4D modeling technology into the preconstruction phase of the projects.
Assist with planning and attend 2-3 trade shows per year.
Oversee the proposal and presentation functions:
Develop the plan for winning the job.
Develop and lead the preparation and presentation of Energy Group project proposals.
Lead the estimating services team in translating customer desires into technical and financial documentation.
Prepare bid packages for subcontractors and suppliers in conjunction with the Energy Group team.
Initiate customer feedback on proposals. 
Manage internal and external communications. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 
A minimum of 8+ years on site project management/preconstruction management experience in commercial or industrial construction
Must be proficient in preconstruction management
Strong customer relationship building skills.
Estimating & scheduling skills
Ability to apply technical knowledge to business development.
Bachelors Degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
Business development experience within the industrial or commercial construction industry or electrical utilities or power industries.
Preferred:  Knows the wind energy and/or power sector players in the construction marketplace.  Knows wind energy technology and can talk the talk of the industry.

TRAVEL

Average of two trips per month for one to two days at a time.
