Sr. Process Controller

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

-Perform design and maintenance duties on all software and hardware for digital control and PLC applications, for the Phelps Dodge copper smelting, refining, anode pouring, oxygen and acid plants, and supporting utilities.
-Troubleshoot these control systems and make repairs and upgrades as required to maintain continuous smelter production.
-Be responsible for originating, engineering, specifying, and procuring material for new control equipment installations and existing control system upgrades and additions.
-Work closely with management, instrumentation technicians, electricians, production personnel and mechanical maintenance disciplines.
-Provide support and technical assistance to smelter instrument and electrical maintenance technicians on complex trouble shooting issues and improvement project installations.
-Provide technical assistance and back-up support to the environmental group for emissions and ambient air monitoring systems.
-Serve as project manager for Control Systems additions and revisions.

*The control systems include Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers, DH+ networks, Honeywell TDC 3000 and Honeywell Experion Distributed Control Systems.
*Also in use is a Microsoft Enterprise network system and an OSI/PI data management system for the smelter interfaces with the Enterprise network and a variety of third party applications.
*Substantial use is made of variable frequency motor drives of a broad variety of types and manufacturers.

-The Process Control staff provides seven-day a week on-site coverage, which requires a rotation of weekend coverage approximately once a month. At times significant overtime work is required.

Minimum Requirements:

-The successful candidate must:

-Have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or Electrical or -Instrumentation Journeyman status with five years or more experience in industrial electrical or instrumentation maintenance.
-Demonstrate an aptitude for understanding and manipulating digital control systems.
-Demonstrate evidence of an excellent industrial safety attitude and a willingness to support Phelps Dodge Zero and Beyond goals.
-Have experience working in an industrial situation under either OSHA or MSHA regulations.
-Have significant knowledge of industrial control systems.
-Equivalent industrial experience outside the scope of these requirements will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will:

-Be familiar with Allen Bradley PLCs and DH+ application.
-Have DCS experience with emphasis on the Honeywell TDC 3000 systems.
-Have familiarity with Office 2000.
-Have a basic understanding of OSI/PI data management systems and techniques.
-Have some working experience with Honeywell Experion and Fault Tolerant Ethernet.
