JOB TITLE: Cognos Reporting Specialist

DURATION: 12 months

LOCATION: Houston, Texas

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

This is a new position with a team that is leading the client's conversion from a primarily Access-based reporting structure to one based on Cognos 8 Report, Query and Analytics Studios. This is considered a technical lead position (senior developer) and will involve these major job assignments:

Substantial report writing to convert existing key IT production reports to Cognos;

Internal IT training and mentoring to assist Access report developers in transitioning to the Cognos environment;

Report and Query analysis and design with business departments to define reporting data objects for Cognos framework layer;

Mentoring and coaching advanced business users who are creating queries and reports for their departments;

Some high level training for business and IT users in correct methods and techniques for report/query design;

OLAP design and data creation to support analytical management reporting;

Expert troubleshooting support for IT and business departments;

Technical leadership for the IT report/query developers (IT's reporting expert).

Ability to work independently and with team members

Communicate with internal/external customers on a business level

Excellent presentational communication skills required

Ability to mentor other developers and advanced business users

Technical Skills:

3-5 years Business Intelligence (Cognos 7)

Some experience in Cognos 8 required

Multiple years authoring reports in a Data Warehouse environment required

Oracle 9i / 10g database experience preferred

Access reporting experience a major plus (minimum 1 year)

Visual Basic and .NET experience a plus
