The University of Southern California is seeking an excellent Computer Service Engineer Consultant for the Center For Creative Technologies.

 

**This position is located in Marina Del Rey, California.

 

The consultant will be required to install, upgrade, repair and maintain computer systems, workstations, communications and networking equipment and associated peripherals for the University and external clients.

Provides consultative services and custom design work. Works independently on all activities. Leads other Computer Service Engineers.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

?Configure, install, maintain and tune UNIX/Linux, Windows and OSX servers

?Maintain server and network security

?Prioritize and manage issues dispatched via the Helpdesk Ticketing system

?Diagnose and repair system and network issues

?Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation

?Research and recommend equipment and applications for deployment

?On-call duties in rotation with other administrators

?Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation

?Identify potential bottlenecks and suggest resolutions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's Degree with seven years' experience; however, combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. In-depth knowledge of computer systems, communications and networking equipment and associated peripherals, diagnostic tools and software. Working knowledge of PCs, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, PhotoShop and Meeting Maker. Occasional travel.

 

Required Skills:

 

?Strong Unix/Linux Administration skills

?Experienced in Windows Server and Desktop administration

?Solid understanding and knowledge of Apple OS X server and workstation operating systems

?Perl, php and /or Unix scripting language expertise

?Solid systems administration experience with Apache, Samba, DNS/BIND, Postfix, NTP, FTP, DHCP, NFS, SSH LDAP, radius, PostgreSQL, and MySQL

 

?Extensive knowledge of Internet mail protocols (SMTP, POP & IMAP)

?Active Directory/Unix integration experience and understanding

?Strong troubleshooting skills that allow for quick diagnosis and problem resolution

?Familiarity with backup systems and methodologies

?Independent, self starter with eagerness to work on different and challenging projects

?Strong written and verbal skills with good technical writing ability

 

Familiarity with the following a plus:

 

?Cyclades Console servers configuration, operation and management

?Network Appliance clustered NAS system

Legato Networker Backup software

?Panja/AMX Touchscreen programming

?Large scale projection programming

?Cisco, Foundry or HP network hardware

?VoIP Technology and specifically 3Com VoIP telephony hardware
