SQL Server 2000/2005, Design, tuning and optimization experience, DB scripting for monitoring, backup,maintenance, Etc.  experience,  VLDB experience (200GB+)

 

A strong Database Consultant is needed in Dallas, TX to provide scalability, high availability, migration and consolidation expertise on the Microsoft SQL Server platform.  The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of enterprise database administration experience, with 3 years experience with Microsoft SQL Server.  Must have experience in administering large-scale (200 GB to multi-terabyte) database architectures.  A Bachelor?s Degree is Computer Science is required.  The candidate should be a self-starter with strong leadership, professionalism and responsible qualities. The candidate should have the ability to work well with aggressive deadlines and minimal supervision. Strong writing skills are required.  The position includes a good amount of travel. 


Duties and Responsibilities
Work with Fortune 1000 clients performing scalability, high availability, migration and consolidation consulting on the Microsoft SQL Server platform as a Database Consultant.
Design and implement robust database administration solutions including resource management, security, backup and recovery, performance monitoring and tuning, data management and capacity planning, planning, and implementing failover between database instances.
Design and implement scripts for instance monitoring, maintenance, backup, cloning, etc.  utilizing T-SQL, SSIS, Reporting Services and Analysis Services.
Write class content and presentations for workshops, seminars, web casts and conferences.


Knowledge and Skills
Candidate must be an experienced DBA who has worked on SQL Server 2000 (preferably SQL Server 2005 as well). Must understand the SQL Server architecture at a 300 level or higher.
Experience with performance optimization and tuning with database applications is a MUST.
Hands-on experience in Oracle or other RDBMS preferred.
ASP, VBScript and XML knowledge a plus.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Mature, confident team player motivated by a fast paced environment.
Must be creative and detail oriented.
MCDBA track certifications are a plus.
Should have an excellent command of SQL Server and Windows monitoring tools, both Microsoft supplied (Profiler, Performance Monitor, MOM) and third-party (BMC, DBArtisan, Quest)
