Health and Welfare Actuarial Associate

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As an Actuarial Associate within Health and Welfare, you will have an impact on the benefit programs of many of our Fortune 1,000 clients by working with senior practitioners to review the employee benefit strategies of these clients, perform benchmarking analysis, develop pricing strategies, complete valuations and manage client plans. You will also be looked upon to mentor and motivate your teammates, participate in client and team meetings and help create new processes to improve client deliverables.

Major Responsibilities:


Pricing benefit options, for medical, dental, managed care, disability and flexible benefits;
Evaluating managed care programs and preparing reports on findings;
Preparing cost estimates and actuarial valuations;
Analyzing vendor proposals and negotiating vendor renewals;
Participating in client meetings to advise on data issues and address benefit question
Participating in a variety of special projects such as mergers and acquisitions work, benchmarking analyses and contract analyses.

Qualifications:


1-2+ years experience working with Health & Welfare benefit plans in a benefit consulting or insurance company environment
Minimum of 2 courses passed towards ASA designation, plus a strong commitment to pursuing ASA designation;
Solid actuarial or underwriting skills as they pertain to Health and Welfare or other employee benefit plans;
Strong database management experience, particularly with MS Access;
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Very comfortable working in a team environment;
Excellent MS Excel skills;
