Human Resources Generalist

Job Description: Administer Human Resources practices consistently and in compliance with state and federal laws and company policy. Ensure business partner department practices are administered consistently and do not put the company at risk. Conduct thorough investigations and handle corrective action issues. Ensure all documentation is thorough, well written and appropriate for 3rd party viewing.



Conduct climate surveys, focus groups and employee interviews as needed to understand employee issues and concerns. Analyze attrition data to identify opportunities for improvement. Recommend and implement solutions as appropriate.



Take proactive measures to ensure a legally compliant work environment with strong, positive employee/employer relations by providing applicable manager training.



Develop effective working relationships with business partner. Collaborate with business partners to achieve business objectives by gaining a thorough understanding of the business including department goals, performance expectations, incentive programs, compensation structure and employee morale. Participate in department meetings and events. Participate in problem resolution with business partners.



Assist business partner managers in assessing developmental needs of their employees and make recommendations to facilitate development. Provide guidance and direction on compensation and promotion decisions to ensure compliance with company compensation philosophy.



Support philanthropic efforts within the community with a focus on creating strong brand awareness in the community. Coordinate and facilitate benefit meetings and communication, employee conveniences, wellness and discount programs.

This position is located in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Job Experience:
Bachelors degree or equivalent. PHR or SPHR certification preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of Human Resources professional experience within a 400+ employee environment.

Working knowledge of current state and federal regulations related to employment (i.e. EEOC, ADA, ADEA, EOE, FLSA, etc).

Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, decision-making, negotiation, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and Access. Experience with Peoplesoft HRIS system is a plus.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
