IS Database Administrator - X2

Description:
Works independently to provide a wide variety of database administration services. Responsibilities include all
aspects of database administration work, including structure and security maintenance, physical design and layout,
and performance tuning. Additional responsibilities may include software installation, project management, and
potentially people management. The associate in this position has significant responsibility for daily operations
(including off-hours support), and is expected to work independently under general management
direction.

Responsibilities
General Database Administration
Exhibits a wide spectrum of technical expertise, and acts as a mentor to less-experienced associates.
Performs all of the basic functions related to database administration and quickly comes up to speed on new RDBMS functions.
Gains a familiarity with different RDBMSs as business needs dictate
Provides consulting to developers on all aspects of effective database design and SQL optimization
Communicates effectively, both verbal and through email, regarding technical issues
Creates and maintains appropriate documentation
Demonstrates advanced problem solving skills
Provides expert assistance on large projects
Understands many different application architectures, and consults on appropriate RDBMS implementation.

Database Support
Demonstrates the ability to quickly identify and resolve root causes of common database problems
Demonstrates a sense of urgency, reliability, and attention to detail
Implements appropriate problem escalation procedures as the need arises
May serve as lead resource coordinator

Project Management
Demonstrates general techniques of good project management (documentation, organization,
communication)
May lead data management sub-project of a larger project
May coordinate activities of a small number of associates on a specific project

People Management
May be required to manage people

Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Work Experience
Prefer 5 to 10 years experience working on the specific RDBMS, as a database administrator

Technical/Functional Requirements
Familiarity with the system platform (i.e., z/OS, UNIX, Windows) which hosts the RDBMS
In-depth knowledge of specific RDBMS
Good work-related documentation skills.
Strong problem solving skills and ability to grasp technical concepts quickly
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to plan work activities, multi-task effectively, and adhere to deadlines
Effective leadership and mentoring skills
