The Business Practice: The Tillinghast business of Towers Perrin provides global actuarial and management consulting to insurance and financial services companies and advises a wide range of companies on risk financing and self-insurance. We help clients with a broad range of business issues, including mergers & acquisitions; financial and regulatory reporting; risk, capital and value management; products, markets and distribution; and financial modeling solutions.

Job Description:

Within a multi-disciplinary team you will impact a broad range of financial strategies for leading insurance companies with a special emphasis on medical malpractice liabilities.

You will work on a variety of projects including some or all of the following: perform studies of rate and reserve levels for existing or new companies or programs, assisting clients in evaluating the feasibility of forming captive or traditional insurance companies, including familiarity and use of associated financial projection software; assess reinsurance or excess insurance programs for companies or self-insurance programs; participate in merger/acquisition analyses; evaluate the liability and funding needs of self-insurance programs; assist clients in all manner of financial evaluations (investments, expense issues, risk based capital, AM Best and other ratings, surplus adequacy, etc.)

Responsibilities include:


Working with a team of experts from both actuarial and management consulting backgrounds on client engagements to solve client problems
Serving as the project manager on client engagements including: coordinating internal resources; advising project team on potential solutions and strategies to meet project goals and client needs; and providing developmental guidance to junior level staff
Partnering with lead consultant to identify new sales opportunities and expand work
Providing financial analyses evaluating new business ventures, mergers or acquisitions
Analyzing pricing and profitability of P/C Products
Making a valued contribution to the intellectual capital development of the firm

Requirements:


Successful completion FCAS designation. An ACAS moving towards FCAS (1-2 exams remaining) would also be considered
5+ years work experience in a property/casualty insurance company or consulting firm
Professional Liability experience; medical malpractice experience
Expertise in at least one core service area (estimating reserves for claims liabilities; providing financial analyses for restructuring initiatives (e.g. mergers and acquisitions); managing client risks using dynamic financial analysis tools; analyzing pricing and profitability of P/C products)
Solid understanding of how the P/C insurance industry operates (including product knowledge, regulatory requirements, accounting systems, etc.)
Proven experience building and maintaining client relationships (internal or external)
Project management experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to travel if required. Travel varies, but typically travel will average between 1-2 business days per week.
