Position Overview

IDC's Global Services Markets and Trends research team is seeking a Program Manager or Director level researcher for its Worldwide Services and Emerging Services Opportunities Programs. This position is involved at a very high level with senior executives in key client accounts and aggregates research worldwide to present a global view of the state of the services industry. This individual would co-manage the Worldwide Services Program and be the manager and lead analyst for the Emerging Services Opportunities report series. This position will typically be the first point of research contact for major clients, Wall Street clients, and end user clients.

Responsibilities

The Worldwide Services program is tasked with tracking key demand side and supply side trends in the services market as well as the major services firms at a high level and rolling up the views of the regional and service line analysts into a comprehensive industry profile. Primary responsibilities include coordinating and writing up the documents that roll up the services industry; developing competitive analysis reports on the top 20 global services firms; tracking the movements and strategies of the top 20 global services firms and the markets they play in; developing strong relationships with clients and nurturing these relationships by being highly responsive to clients' requests for information; building thought leading views on the shifts and trends in the Services industry and recommending strategies for clients based on these trends.

As manager and lead analyst for the Emerging Services Opportunities program, this individual would track emerging areas such as Linux and Open Sources and the opportunities presented to service firms, develop viewpoints and research on the increasing role of "assets" and technology in the service process, and examine the impact of other technologies and trends on services delivery, services market expansion, and services profitability.

The Program Manager/Director will interact with services firms, the financial community, and end users as well as regional analysts, and other analysts across IDC. The successful candidate will attend vendor briefings both here in Framingham and at annual Analyst conferences. He/she will also seek out opportunities to share research and thought leadership through breakfast briefings, telebriefings, and other venues.

Skills and Experience

The job requires excellent research and writing skills, solid speaking skills and strong interpersonal skills to enable both collaboration and customer service, as well as the ability to engage with clients at high levels. The successful candidate will be collaborative across IDC, have a very curious mind about technology and technology services and possess the ability to see the big picture. Experience in the IT industry is helpful. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record and preferably more than nine years of experience in a relevant industry. An MBA, though not required, would be a plus.
