Classification:  Exempt

 

Purpose: This position designs and implements software solutions for automated material handling projects.

 

Organizational Relationships: The Software Engineer reports to the Manager of Integration and Commissioning.  The position requires working in an inter-departmental team-based environment to complete assignments.  It requires interaction with employees in all Tompkins offices.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Work assignments will vary within each engineer?s area of expertise.  The duties will encompass the following software engineering tasks:

? Design, code, and test real-time control systems for material handling hardware

? Design, code, and test graphical user interfaces

? Design, code, and test database interface modules

? Install and configure databases used in material handling systems

? Design, code, and test communications routines for inter-process or network messaging

? Write technical and end-user documentation of computer programs

? Maintain configuration control of software libraries

? Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

 

? Bachelor?s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

? Experience with one or more of the following technologiesOperating systems: Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Unix.  Windows XO experience is preferred.Languages:  C/C++, Visual Basic, Java, Visual .NETSCADA and HMI/MMI software such as Wonderware  RsviewMachine control software such as Steeplechase Visual Logic Controller, or PLC softwareDatabase programming experience in Oracle or SQL ServerWindows OBDC connectivity programming & performance issuesTCP/IP Programming

? Familiarity with configuration management tools

? Desired experience in the material handling industry

? The ability to travel to client jobsites is required

? Effective written and spoken communication skills are required

? Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills are required
