Technical Global Advisor - Japan

Job Summary:


You will work as a Technical Global Advisor in a division that is critical to the bottom line of Network Appliance. You will be a part of a dedicated, highly technical and cohesive team that supports independence and customer focus. The TGA will be expected to work in tandem to support a client who is based in the United States with a clear presence in Japan. The person in this role will be the primary TGA contact for Japan for NetApp and will represent the company to Japanese customers. The person will have knowledge of Japanese business practices and must speak fluent Japanese.  You will provide management focus that will provide the highest level of customized, proactive and reactive services by building a partner relationship with the customer to better serve customer's data management needs. You will be critical to the assigned account team which is mainly comprised of Global Enterprise Manager (GEM), and Strategic Technical Account Manager (STAM) in furthering the NetApp partner relationship, helping increasing sales, and coordinating support activities for the account. A TGA will act as a liaison between the appropriate Network Appliance groups and the customer to maximize customer satisfaction of the assigned account. Essentially, TGA is a part of a dedicated NetApp team, which becomes an extension of a customer's team to work with them and ensure that NetApp system and support services deliver optimal results


 


Essential Functions:


You will be responsible for handling critical technical issues, coordinating support activities, and will be acquainted with customer's systems, environment and service history at the NetApp customer in Japan. You will be responsible for helping design, present, and implement solutions for the customer that will utilize Network Appliance products to their fullest ability, and solve the customers' business needs. You will represent Network Appliance in support meetings with the customer regularly. This position provides both PRE and POST sales support to your assigned customer. You are to assist the customer and work with NetApp accounts team with product evaluations, benchmarking of systems and performance monitoring of systems in "their" installations and load. You are to provide detailed analysis to the customer on this as well.  You will work on troubleshooting and solving escalated customer issues directly with the appropriate engineering teams within Network Appliance, as well as multi-vendor issues. You will also do proactive monitoring of systems to identify potential problems and make recommendations to resolve them.


 


Requirements:


Requires 5+ years of proven experience in a customer facing position touching Technical Support and/or senior level System Administration. 5+ years of industry experience in System Administration. Fluent Japanese is a must in this position as well as demonstrated knowledge of Japanese business practices.Requires travel to Japan. In-depth knowledge in three or more of the following areas is essential:


 

Networking - (Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, Routers, Switches) 
Unix and/or Windows Operating System 
Good understanding of RAID 
Strong knowledge of NFS and/or CIFS 
Knowledge of NIS, NIS+, DNS, Routing 
Knowledge of Database administration is highly desirable 
File System Recovery
Knowledge of dump, restore, backup, NDMP, tape drives, stackers, libraries, and backup applications preferably Veritas and/or Legato. 
Netcache knowledge is a strong plus 
Excellent verbal and written skills are a must.


Education:


Candidate should possess a BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 3 plus years experience in UNIX or Windows networking administration or technical support
